About Us
My 4-year-old son, Quinn, inspired me to create these cards through his absolute love and curiosity with nature, specifically spiders!
I had always been a bit afraid of spiders, then, along came Quinn, my second darling child, and I didn't really have much of a choice! He is extremely determined, quick to try anything new, and he developed this absolute fascination with spiders at the age of three. He would be out in the garden with me while I was weeding or planting vegetables, and he would just pick up ANY spider that he saw, bring it to me and ask me: "What's that Mum?!". So, to start with, I would take a photo of the spider and then share it to a bug ID group on Facebook who would come back to me with the type of spider he had found. I would tell Quinn, and grateful as he was to now know what kind of spider it was, he also wanted to know what they ate, where they lived, what their webs looked like, etc. etc.
So, I decided to put together a resource for him (and me) that would help him identify the spiders that we have around and also provide the answers to his other questions. I got this laminated so that we could take it outside and not worry about it getting ruined.
It was a hit. And then the idea struck me that surely there are other kids out there who also want to know all of these things about spiders, and surely there are other parents out there who are looking to rely less on their cellphones for information and who want to be able to buy quality, locally made resources for their kids.
And, here we are!
